Milwaukee Social Media Manager Productivity

What does a social media manager do when social media is down?

What does a social media manager do when social media is down? Well well well. Most people know of the social media outage all….day…long. I’m sure someone has come up with a cool name for it. If you heard one – I’d love to hear it!

So what did I do today? As a social media manager, my job should be using social media all day, right? Not exactly! I have a lot of fun things that I do for my “job.” I used today as an opportunity to be creative. I have many tools I use for my client’s posts and none of those tools were down.

I took this opportunity to get my creative juices flowing. Social Media Managers don’t just sit on these pages all day every day. That’s what notifications are for ?. Thankfully, I do my work in blocks. Some would call it bulk. Basically I take a bunch of tasks and work on multiple things all at one time. It sounds mundane, but in the end it is SUCH a timesaver! If I have an image to put a logo on, I’ll do a bunch of images at one time instead of going back and forth. If I’m creating content, same thing I do a bunch at one time instead of going back and forth.

We talk a lot about bulk or block style working in the Social Media Class and Workshop Tracy Champage and I teach. Remember if you are interested in taking the class, you can get 1/2 off by taking this survey.

Canva

One of my favorite tools I use is an online design program called Canva. I do a lot of my graphics in this program. I create quotes specific for my clients, flyers, logos and more! There are a ton of free options available but I do pay a bit for seemingly limitless uses. Have you ever used Canva? What’s your favorite thing to make in the program?

So, today I did a lot of graphic work. It was fun and also gave me an opportunity to take time to be even more creative than normal. The best part? My clients are getting a little extra they didn’t pay for as an added gift from me. We’ll see if they notice over the next month of posts.

My Website

I also took some time to tend to my website which I don’t spend a lot of time on. Recently I created a new page that I use when networking. The page is simply called “Connect with Kim Knaak.” If you’ve ever heard of Linktr.ee, it’s similar to that. But this is a page I have complete control over and I’m loving it. I’m choosing how people connect with me and where.

From now on I’m going to use this for any new website I have. On platforms such as Instagram, you are only allowed to use one website link. This link is perfect for me as now I can add whatever I want to it – or what pertains to me at that time.

Oh and let’s talk websites for a second. This #SocialMediaOutage should have taught many business owners – if you don’t have a website, you NEED one! A website is really our only real estate on the internet. Make sure you are utilizing as many digital channels as you can afford (both time and money) but please, make sure a website is one of them!

You didn’t miss anything on social today!

So today I thought I’d also finish on my website and throw some words out to you all. Find the positivity when the unknown is thrown at you. Take the opportunities to be creative – whatever your creative might be. Some business owners freaked out with the loss of social today; I found plenty of other things to work on for my clients. Remember this, you didn’t miss anything on social today, because no one else was on it. How did you use today to be creative? What did you do during the social outage?

Thanks for taking the time to read about my day today. I hope you made yours amazing!

Best,

Kim
